Internet Radio devices such as the Logitech Squeezebox Duet WiFi Internet Radio, the Roku SoundBridge M1000/M1001 Network Music System, the Sonos BU250 Multiroom Music System and others are compatible with receiving Radio Free Colorado in 5.1 Channel Surround Sound.

If you have only two speakers, or two speakers and a Subwoofer, that's OK too. We include as part of our 192 kbps MP3 stream a "2.1 Channel" stereo mix, meaning you'll hear our broadcast in 2-channel Expanded Stereo. Headphones sound great as well.

What is Donated money used for?

Donations made to Radio Free Colorado are used to pay Radio Free Colorado station expenses only:

• For paying the Internet bandwidth usage expenses (the cost of sending the music streams to you).
• For legally purchasing the Artist's music.
• For paying Music Broadcast License Fees (Radio Free Colorado is a Legally Licensed Station).
• For maintaining the electronics equipment in the Station's Studio in proper working order.
• For hardware and software upgrades and maintenance for the Radio Free Colorado Studio PC's.
  

Donations you make are not used for employee salaries or for profits. Each calendar month station expenses are estimated and posted here as the Monthly Fundraising Goal for that particular month.

Radio Free Colorado currently leases Shoutcast MP3 stream servers and a premium grade Web Server in multiple Data Centers located in Chicago Illinois, Sayreville New Jersey and Stuttgart Germany.

Leasing computer servers on multiple continents in multiple cities is necessary so Radio Free Colorado's music streams can be reliably heard most anywhere in the world. The average cost per listener per month for Radio Free Colorado to provide these streaming services is about $2.50 per listener.

Radio Free Colorado has increased listener capacity by 500 additional Listeners by adding another MP3 Streaming Server.

Radio Free Colorado is now streaming our broadcast to you in 5.1 Channel Surround Sound.

If you have Gaming type or Surround Sound speakers on your PC, you can now receive Radio Free Colorado in 5.1 Channel Surround Sound.

Internet Radio listeners voted in an Online Poll that Radio Free Colorado sounds better than 95% of the other Rock Radio Internet Radio Stations listed on Shoutcast.com — the world's largest Directory of internet radio stations (over 12,000 stations are listed).

Microsoft's new Windows® 7 software includes Dolby® Digital Plus Surround Sound decoding for up to 7.1 Channels of Surround Sound. Radio Free Colorado currently streams in 5.1 Channel Surround Sound.

Windows Vista users need only use Windows Media Player 11, and a PC setup with multiple Surround Sound speakers — the sound quality will be almost as good as compared to using Windows 7.

Windows XP (and Vista) users can use Winamp in Direct Sound mode, a multi-channel sound card and speakers to receive RFC in 5.1 Channel Surround Sound. Use the Andrew Labs ATSurround plug-in for Winamp.

Winamp users (Windows XP or Vista) can experience higher quality 5.1 Channel Surround Sound decoding by using the Andrew Labs ATSurround plug-in. Using the ATSurround plug-in with Winamp to listen to Radio Free Colorado will provide an improved and more enjoyable Surround Sound listening experience than using Winamp alone. We recommend the ATSurround plug-in.

We're using the latest version of Omnia Digital Audio Processing (a professional type of DSP sound processing), other new electronics equipment and specialized MPEG streaming software for better overall sound quality on our 192 kbps MP3 5.1 Channel Surround Sound stream.

Another way to receive Radio Free Colorado in 5.1 Channel Surround Sound would be to use the Logitech Squeezebox Duet WiFi Internet Radio, the Roku SoundBridge M1000/M1001 Network Music System, the Sonos BU250 Multiroom Music System or other brand of Internet Radio reception device compatible with connecting to your Home Theater Surround Sound equipment.

Or, use a proper digital output connection (HDMI with audio, or coaxial or optical digital) from your PC to a compatible digital input on your Home Theater Surround Sound system. Some "HTPC's" (Home Theater PC's) already have the necessary connections for Home Theater Surround Sound.

Use the Surround Sound settings on your PC or Home Theater which sound best to you - there are many choices of Surround Sound listener settings on PC's and Home Theater equipment. Which settings you prefer the most are very much your own individual choice.

We suggest first beginning at Surround Sound settings which use your Front Left/Right speakers, the Center speaker, the Rear Left/Right speakers and the Subwoofer all at once (5.1 Channels). From there, you can experiment with different Surround Sound modes, speaker balance and effect settings.
